11 Questions from Vicki W

1) What got you into blogging in the first place?
I was reading a lot and missed sharing my experiences with other people who read the same kind of books I do. I want to share my thoughts and don't have friends who love reading as much as I do.  It was so amazing when I discovered the blogs and videos about books!! I couldn't help but start a blog too and I'm so happy I did. I love this book-community!

2) What's your favourite book and why?
You know that's an impossible question right? There are so many books I love, but if I need to pick one, it would be the entire Harry Potter series( cheating a little bit here), because that's always going to be epic.

3) What was the last film you saw at the cinema and what did you think of it?
I finally saw Catching Fire a couple of days ago and it was mind-blowing! I loved that they stayed really close to the story and the setting was gorgeous.

4) Do you have a favourite song?
Currently I just love the 'Happy' song by Pharrell Williams. It makes me feel good :)

5) If you could live in any fictional world (i.e. Narnia) where would you choose?
Definitely the Harry Potter world!!

6) Who would your dream fictional husband/wife be?
Hmm, let me think. I'm reading the Vampire Academy series right now, and I love the Russian Dimitri.

7) Do you have a favourite cartoon character?
Nope I don't have one. I do love Disney movies?!

8) Do you prefer eBooks or physical ones? Which do you read most often?
I like reading on my Ereader, but I also love reading in a 'real' book. I read more often in paperbacks then on my Ereader.

9) What's your favourite TV show?
Currently I just started watching the Hart of Dixie series and I really love it so far! I also love the Vampire Diaries, Once upon a time, Grey's Anatomy and a lot more ;)

10) Why did you choose your blog name? Is there a story behind it?
My blog name says it all: I'm loving books!!!

11) In the film of your life, who would play you? And what would you call it?
That's a really hard one, I don't have a clue....

Love for Books Readathon

I just found out there's a readathon taking place this week. I simply love readathons so naturally I need to participate! The readathon is hosted by Confessions of a bookiemonster and Novel heartbeat. If you want to participate, check out their blogs!
This readathon runs from monday February 17th through sunday February 23nd and I'm so excited!!!

Goals

My goal is to read read and... read :D. I'm not going to name a number of pages, because sometimes that pressure takes away the fun of reading.  I want to read the last book of the Vampire Academy series, Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead. It's a pretty big book and I hope I will get a lot of reading done, although I do need to work every day.

Progress

Because I didn't enter this readathon on Monday, I'm going to start tracking my progress starting on Tuesday(today).  I will post my progress a couple of days in the readathon and this is how I keep track:

Review: Thrall

Title: Thrall
Series: Daughters of Lilith #1
Author: Jennifer Quintenz
Release date: May 2012
Age group: Young Adult
Pages: 281

Synopsis

“Welcome to Braedyn Murphy’s life. She’s a typical—if shy—sophomore navigating the slings and arrows of high school life with her two best friends, Royal and Cassie.  Then a new boy, Lucas, moves into the house next door, and Braedyn finds herself falling in love for the first time.

But Braedyn’s normal life comes crashing down around her ears when she learns she’s a descendent of Lilith, the mother of all demons - and that she might play a critical role in an ancient war between the Sons of Adam and the Daughters of Lilith. Turns out the right answers aren’t always clear or easy.  And as for “good” and “evil” – it all depends on how you choose to act.

Inspired by the ancient Mesopotamian myths of Lilith and her offspring, Thrall explores first love, strong friendships, and taking on adult responsibilities against the backdrop of powerful supernatural forces and life-and-death stakes.”

Expectations

The synopsis sounds intriguing and makes me curious about the story. I've never heard about the ancient Mesopotamian myths of Lilith and I'm looking forward getting to know more about that. I'm really interested in stories based on a myth (I love the Percy Jackson series), so that's a good start. I've received this book for review by the author, however, this will not influence my review. I always write honest reviews.

Review

The story immediately pulls me in . The main character Braedyn has a lot of realistic  features most of us can relate to.  She's not the popular  girl at school, she feels kind of average.

It's a well written story, with some great characters and character development.
The writing style is amazing. It's fast-paced, gripping and hard to stop reading. I feel like this is a book to read in one sitting and I didn't like it that I didn't have the time to read it like that.  All the characters are very believable( if you don't count the paranormal ones ;)).  They just seem very real with their own problems.

An example from the book of the beautiful writing style:
Quote: 'Lucas nodded a goodbye and walked away, leaving me feeling chilled - like someone had just turned off the sun.'

I really like Braedyn, our main character. She's a very believable and down to earth girl. Her reactions are often very understandable which tributes to the credibility of the story. I like the way Braedyn's character developed as she counters the good vs bad issue. It's very confusing for her to deal with that. You read the struggles she has within herself and the way she faces reality through the consequences  of  her actions. I also like the way she learns how to fight and defend herself.

Lucas is a really nice character as well, just thinking about him makes me smile. He's a good guy with his own struggles to deal with. He really cares about Braedyn.

Somewhere in the middle of the story the pace was a bit slow, but the rest of the book makes up for that. I love the unique story line.I n this book I feel like I truly get to see Braedyn change gradually from an average girl to a strong and confident woman.

All I can really say is, if you like paranormal romance, you will love this one!

Review: I like it like that

Title: I like it like that
Series: Gossip Girl #5
Author: Cecily von Ziegesar
Release date: May 2004
Age group: Young Adult
Pages: 224

If you're not familiar with this series, you can check out my previous reviews on the books in the Gossip Girl series:
Gossip Girl #1
You know you love me #2
All I want is everything #3
Because I'm worth it #4

Expectations

My expectations are not that great, to be honest. I didn't really love the other books, although I did like the increasing humor in the second and third book. I need to read this book just to see if it does get better.

Review

Halfway trough the book I didn't see any progress in the story-line as well as the development of the main characters. The writing style is really annoying to me at this point, as well as the overall thoughts of the main characters.  To me this book showed even more the lack of character-development and stayed with stereotype personalities then the previous ones in the series.
The quote below is an example. Serena just met a Dutch snowboarding team on holiday.

Quote:

page 126: 'Jan laughed and took a swig of dark amber beer. "We are not always snowboarding. I go to university in Minsk. I'm studying to be a dentist". "Oh." Serena had imagined that the whole team lived together in a cabin on top of a mountain in the Alps somewhere, snowboarding all day and getting drunk together every night. She'd thought it would be cozy, being the only girl in the group. She could cut their hair for them and make French toast for breakfast. '

Really, REALLY?? ,that's what she thinks...come on..

I think I'm really getting to old for these kind of books. It took me a long time to read this one, mainly because to me it was a boring book. It all emphasizes on the rich kids and how amazing they think they are. Blair even thinks going to rehab is a fun way to increase her chances on impressing a boy.

Reading this I just wanted to get it over with, so I could start a new, exciting book and quit reading the rest of this series. You can guess that's not a good sign..

I wanted to read this fifth book in the series, just to be sure. Now I know, this series just isn't for me.
However, I can understand 16, 17 year old girls would really enjoy reading these books. If you want to read a very light read and you're curious about how rich teenagers live and how they interact with their friends and classmates, you can give this a try. If you want to read a book with a good story and great characters, this is not the book for you.

I'll give this book 1 star, because I didn't enjoy reading it. And I read for fun!

Wrap up January & what's reading in February?

It's February! Today I'll share my wrap up of January and tell you my plans for February!

Wrap up January

If you've read my plans for January at the beginning of the month, you'll know that I wanted to review 4 books and post one big book haul. Well I did all of that and even more!

Posts in January

What's reading in February?

I need your help. I don't know which book to choose to read next. I'm torn between four books:

- Divergent by Veronica Roth;
- Twilight by Stephenie Meyer;
- City of Bones by Cassandra Clare;
- The fault in our stars by John Green.

Please let me know which book I should start first by voting on the poll at the sidebar. They all seem so very interesting and I don't know where to start!!

I like it like that

This month I really want to finish reading the 5th book in the Gossip Girl series, I like it like that. Right now I'm about 60 pages in, but I don't think this story is going to improve. However, I want to finish this one, just to be sure.

Last Sacrifice

I've been stalling this one, because I don't want this series to end. This is the sixth and last book in the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead, which is a fantastic series so far. I'm so curious about what's going to happen and at the same time I don't wanna know. I'm going to read it in February and hopefully enjoy every single page.

There's a movie coming out this month, that's based on the first book in the series, Vampire Academy.

Thrall

If I have time left, I'm going to start reading Thrall, the first book in the Daughters of Lilith series by Jennifer Quintenz. The synopsis sounds very interesting and is about a 16 year old girl experiencing love for the first time and at the same time discovers her true identity.

Catching Fire movie

Another plan is a book vs movie post about the Catching fire movie, I can't wait to finally see it!!

Because Last Sacrifice is a pretty big book, I don't know if I'll get to read a lot.

One last thing

Don't forget to vote on the poll to let me know which one I should read next!!  Comment below if you've read any of the books I'm planning on reading this month.

Happy Reading!!!
